I – F major, F major seventh (Fmaj, Fmaj7). The four note extended chords are F major seventh, G minor seventh, A minor seventh, Bb major seventh, C dominant seventh, D minor seventh, and E minor seventh flat five. The trick is to select a note in the F major scale. You can add sevenths to these chords, either major seventh or dominant seventh, depending on the chord. The triad chords in the key of F major are F major, G minor, A minor, Bb major, C major, D minor, and E diminished. Numerals that represent major chords are capitalized, and minor and diminished chords are lower case. You would have noticed above that Roman Numerals are used to represent each chord. Chord I is a major chord, chord ii is a minor chord, chord iii is a minor chord, chord IV is a major chord, chord V is a major chord, chord vi is a minor chord and lastly, chord vii° is a diminished chord. The pattern for naming chords in every major key is Major Minor Minor Major Major Minor Diminished.
